Rio de Janeiro TWC 2014 - Awards

Important notice: Applications for the following first three awards should have been sent to [email protected]. Candidates could only apply for one award for the Congress. Free congress registration was granted to award winners who must have attended the Closing Ceremony on Saturday, 22 November 2014 to receive their prize. Abdel Hay Mashhour/SICOT Award (closed)

Funded by Prof Abdel Hay Mashhour (Tanta University, Egypt)

Three prizes of USD 1,000 each were awarded at the Closing Ceremony of Triennial World Congresses. One prize was given to a trainee of the Faculty of Medicine of Tanta University in Egypt, and two other awardees were chosen from all applications received. The purpose of the award was to help young orthopaedic trainees attend the Congress.

Prerequisites: candidates must have been trainees under 40.

Documents to submit: application letter, CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and letter from supervisor.

Korean SICOT Award (closed)

Funded by the SICOT Foundation

Awarded at the Closing Ceremony of each Triennial World Congress to young orthopaedic surgeons. The prize was shared by two orthopaedic surgeons. The purpose was to help young surgeons attend the Congress.

Prerequisites: candidates must have been under 40 and members of SICOT.

Documents to submit: application letter indicating travel costs, CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and SICOT Membership Application Form (unless already a SICOT member).

Marcela Uribe Zamudio Awards (closed)

Funded by the SICOT Foundation

Two prizes of up to USD 1,000 each were awarded during the Closing Ceremony to women orthopaedic surgeons under 40 or trainees who completed original scientific work in orthopaedics or traumatology within the last three years. The purpose of the award was to encourage young researchers and clinicians.

Prerequisites: candidates must have been women orthopaedic surgeons under 40 or women trainees who have completed original scientific work in orthopaedics or traumatology within the last three years.

Documents to submit: application letter, CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and copy of one piece of personal work completed within the last three years.

Application deadline: 30 April 2014 (closed)

OrthoPediatrics/SICOT Congress Scholarship (closed)

Sponsored by SICOT and OrthoPediatrics

3 prizes of USD 1,250 each to help cover travel costs and a diploma will be awarded at the Closing Ceremony of the Congress. 

The purpose is to allow Associate Members of SICOT from SLAOT member countries to attend the combined 2014 SBOT/SICOT Orthopaedic World Congress in Rio de Janeiro. 

Prerequisites

  • doctor from a Latin American country

  • must be under 40 years of age

  • must be an Associate Member of SICOT (2014 annual membership fee: 20€)

  • must have an abstract (oral or poster) accepted for the Rio de Janeiro Congress 

  • must be registered for the Congress and the fee must be paid (reduced fee of 75€)

German Travel Awards (closed)

Funded by the SICOT German section

Candidates must reside in Germany and be members of SICOT.

Henri Bensahel Award

Sponsored by the SICOT Congress

This Award was established in 2009 in memory of Henri Bensahel, Professor of Paediatric Orthopaedics and a Founding Member of IFPOS (International Federation of Paediatric Orthopaedic Societies). A prize of EUR 300 is awarded at the Closing Ceremony to the best oral presentation in Paediatrics.

Shanmuga S. Jayakumar Award

This Award was created in 2013 in honour of Shanmuga S. Jayakumar, considered to be amongst the greatest paediatric orthopaedic surgeons in the United States. A prize of EUR 300 is awarded to one of the best oral presentations in Paediatrics.

SICOT/AAOS Annual Meeting Scholarships

AAOS will provide two free registrations for the AAOS Annual Meeting to SICOT-selected scholarship recipients, who will be chosen from a pool of candidates under 45 years of age comprised of the winners of the best oral and poster presentations in Rio de Janeiro. Travel expenses up to EUR 500 will be covered by SICOT.

The presenting author of the best oral presentation selected during this session will be awarded a prize of EUR 500 at the Closing Ceremony. All ten presenting authors will receive a diploma of recognition.
