OASAC - Orthopaedic Association of SAARC Countries

 

 

Background

It was felt that there was a need to establish a forum for orthopaedic surgeons of South Asia and the proposal of creating "An Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons" was agreed between 1988 and 1998.

  
History

Fifteen orthopaedic surgeons from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries gathered in Katmandu, Nepal, for a scientific conference arranged by the Nepal Orthopaedic Association from 29 April to 1 May 1998, with the idea to establish "A Joint Forum for Orthopaedic Surgeons of SAARC".

The Constitution was drafted and approved by the General Body of 15 founding members on 30 April 1998 in Nepal.

Mission Statement

"The Orthopaedic Association of SAARC Countries (South Asian) will consist of full active members of the National Orthopaedic Associations of the SAARC Countries, and will promote education, training and practice of Orthopaedic Surgery. It will also act as an advisory organization in a way that all countries have equal representation and equal opportunities to contribute."

Relationship of OASAC with SICOT

In 2007, OASAC applied to SICOT for affiliation. In 2007, during the Fifth SICOT/SIROT Annual International Conference in Marrakech, Morocco, the SICOT Board of Directors and International Council approved its status of Affiliated Society of SICOT.
