Orthopaedics & Traumatology Surgery & Research Journal

Professor J.M. Thomine, M.D. - Editor-in-Chief

Early in 2009, a new journal Orthopaedics & Traumatology Surgery & Research (OTSR) will be made available to orthopaedic surgeons and researchers in the related sciences.

This journal gathers original articles mainly from the French-speaking orthopaedics community. Articles selected by peer review for publication in French are subsequently translated into English to appear in OTSR, the English version of the French Revue de Chirurgie Orthopedique, uninterruptedly published since 1880. Now 118 years old, this long-established journal remains the leading francophone scientific publication for the worldwide orthopaedics community. The new OTSR, the English counterpart of the RCO, is a pure e-journal, fully indexed in the major international databases. The French version will remain in its traditional printed form under its original title, Revue de Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologique, and thus fully available to the world’s French-speaking scientific community, but will no longer be indexed under this name. Each issue of these twin journals will provide readers with the same set of selected papers published simultaneously.

On a worldwide scale, the French-speaking orthopaedics community might appear somewhat small and parochial. However, the recent decades attest to the fact that valuable and innovative therapeutic concepts in our specialty have been brought to light outside the English-speaking community. Furthermore, a given country's specific healthcare system, medical practices and education can provide a unique perspective leading to creative solutions for hitherto unmet challenges. Finally, OTSR will play an active role in the essential mission of the medical press – sharing, generating, and disseminating knowledge – founded on a partnership with its readers.
