SICOT-APOA: Future of Orthopaedic Training in the Digital Era

Orthopaedic education is changing rapidly as digital technology becomes increasingly embedded in training, collaboration and clinical learning.

The upcoming SICOT-APOA PIONEER webinar, “Future of Orthopaedic Training in the Digital Era,” brings together seven distinguished leaders from SICOT and the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association to explore how innovation is reshaping the way orthopaedic surgeons learn and develop their skills.

The session will examine a wide range of emerging approaches, including AI-driven learning, virtual live surgery, digital anatomy laboratories and competency tracking. Together, these technologies are creating new opportunities for trainees to access knowledge, observe procedures, practise decision-making and measure progress in ways that extend beyond traditional teaching models.

Just as importantly, the webinar will address the wider issues that come with digital education. Discussions will consider ethics, data privacy and responsible use of technology, helping participants think not only about what new tools can achieve, but how they should be introduced into professional training.

Another important theme is the growing potential for global mentorship and collaboration. Digital platforms can connect trainees with experienced surgeons across borders, helping to reduce geographical barriers and broaden access to specialist expertise.

As part of the SICOT PIONEER programme, this joint webinar reflects SICOT’s continued commitment to accessible international education and knowledge exchange. By combining technological innovation with expert teaching and global collaboration, the session will offer a valuable perspective on how orthopaedic training may continue to evolve in the years ahead.

For surgeons, educators and trainees interested in the future of medical education, this webinar provides an opportunity to explore how technology can support skills development, improve access to learning and strengthen international collaboration.
