Research Academy

Call for Applications — Committee Chairs and Research Task Forces

SICOT is inviting applications from its members to serve within the SICOT Research Academy. This call covers member positions on three of the Academy’s operational committees, as well as membership of two research delivery task forces — the Global Research Network (GRN) Task Force and a newly established Innovation Task Force.

The Research Academy is SICOT’s engine for orthopaedic and trauma research — building research culture, capacity, and collaboration across all 110+ member nations and driving measurable improvements in musculoskeletal patient outcomes regardless of resource setting. The positions advertised here are central to delivering that mission.

Selected applicants will begin their term immediately after the SICOT World Orthopaedic Congress in Kyoto (29 September – 1 October 2026).

Applications are invited for the following positions:

Committee Members

Member positions are open on each of the three committees:

Committee

Member positions

Research Grants Committee

9 members

Research Awards Committee

9 members

Research Education and Mentorship Committee

7 members

Committee members are responsible for assisting the Chair and Vice-Chair with all matters pertaining to the work of the committee, including review processes, programme delivery, and achievement of committee KPIs.

Committee Structure

Each committee is constituted as follows:

  • One Chair
  • One Vice-Chair
  • Two or three members from each of the five SICOT regions — Africa, Near & Middle East; Asia Pacific; Europe; North America; and South America
  • One Past-Chair

This structure ensures balanced regional representation and continuity of leadership across the committee’s work.

Research Task Forces

In addition to committee positions, SICOT is recruiting for two research delivery task forces. These task forces translate Research Academy strategy into real-world, large-scale evidence generation and applied innovation.

1. Global Research Network (GRN) Task Force

The GRN is the operational engine that delivers SICOT’s collaborative multi-centre studies — connecting investigators across member nations and providing study coordination, governance oversight, and quality assurance. The GRN Task Force supports the operational delivery of these functions, including study activation, site coordination, data quality oversight, and investigator support.

Applications are invited for membership of the GRN Task Force.

Task Force composition and requirements:

  • 6–10 members, with a minimum of one member per SICOT region to ensure global representation
  • Expertise sought in clinical research methodology, multi-centre trial coordination, and study management
  • Members will support the GRN’s inaugural multi-centre studies and the rolling study pipeline

2. Innovation Task Force

The Innovation Task Force is a newly established body, inspired by the inaugural SICOT Innovation Fair held at the World Orthopaedic Congress in Madrid (September 2025). It is tasked with fostering a culture of applied innovation across the global orthopaedic community — identifying, evaluating, showcasing, and accelerating novel devices, implants, AI applications, software, surgical techniques, and utility models from SICOT members worldwide.

This call is for the Chair of the Innovation Task Force. The Task Force members will subsequently be selected from among the wider pool of applicants. Applicants wishing to be considered for membership of the Innovation Task Force are encouraged to apply, indicating their interest; the Chair, once appointed, will work with the Academy to constitute the Task Force from these applications.

To apply for any of the above positions, applicants must:

  • Be members of SICOT with yearly dues paid for both 2025 and 2026
  • Not currently sit on another committee within the Research Academy

Experience in the field of the relevant committee or task force is essential. Experience gained by working on other similar committees is desirable. For Chair positions, a demonstrable track record of leadership and scientific contribution in the relevant area is expected.
