Sherif ELNIKETY and Siu Leung YIP were granted the German SICOT Fellowship, which offers them the opportunity to visit well-known German orthopaedic centres for a period of four weeks. The fellowship is kindly provided by the German Section of SICOT.

The tenth SICOT Diploma Examination took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 26 November (written) and 27 November 2012 (oral) and consisted of a written part and an oral part.

The written part comprised of 100 multiple choice questions based on the Hyperguide and lasted two hours. The subjects questioned were in the following categories:

    • General Orthopaedics
    • Trauma
    • Paediatrics
    • Pathology
    • Sports Medicine
    • Hand
    • Basic Sciences

The oral part, also lasting two hours, was held the day after. Each candidate was examined by two examiners in each of the four major subjects:

    • Adult Orthopaedics and Pathology (30 minutes)
    • Trauma (30 minutes)
    • Paediatrics and Hand (30 minutes)
    • Basic Sciences (30 minutes) 
           

Eligibility requirements

The SICOT Diploma Examination is aimed at young orthopaedic surgeons in training. To be eligible, candidates must have:

  • registered online;
  • provided their CV;
  • provided a letter from their Head of Department specifying that they have had 4 years of medical practice since obtaining their medical degree and that they are actively engaged in an orthopaedic training programme;
  • been members of SICOT or in the process of applying for membership at the time of registration and their 2012 membership dues must be paid. For more information about SICOT membership application, please click here.

A judging panel reviewed all applications and reserved the right to refuse any application. The number of places available was limited to 36.

IMPORTANT: The candidate was only considered eligible once he/she had registered online and the SICOT Head Office had received (at hq@sicot.org) before 29 February 2012 his/her CV, Head of Department's letter, SICOT membership application form (unless already a SICOT member) and full payment of the 2012 membership fee.

Payment

Only the 36 selected candidates were asked to pay the registration fee at a later date. The registration fee for the exam did NOT include registration for the Dubai Conference.

   
Cancellation policy

  • Cancellations received from 1 June 2012 to 15 June 2012 secured a refund of 70% of the total amount paid.
  • Cancellations received from 16 June 2012 to 30 June 2012 secured a refund of 50% of the total amount paid.
  • No refund was made under any circumstances for cancellations received on or after 1 July 2012. This included cancellations made due to visa refusal. Candidates were therefore advised to start the visa application process well in advance.
