Korean SICOT Award (closed)

Sponsored by the Korean Orthopaedic Association

Awarded at the Closing Ceremony of each World Congress, a prize of USD 1,000 is granted to one orthopaedic surgeon. The purpose is to help a young surgeon attend the Congress.

Prerequisites: candidates must be under 40, be members of SICOT (2017 membership paid), and have an accepted abstract for the SICOT Congress.

Please send the following documents to [email protected]: application letter indicating travel costs, CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and the number of their abstract.

Lester Lowe SICOT Awards (closed)

Sponsored by the SICOT Foundation

Two awards of USD 500 each, as well as free registration for the Congress, will be granted at the Closing Ceremony to two young orthopaedic surgeons. The purpose is to help them attend the meeting and encourage the submission of poster presentations.

Prerequisites: candidates must be members of SICOT under 40 years of age (2017 membership paid) and must have an abstract (poster) accepted for the Congress.

Marcela Uribe Zamudio Awards (closed)

A prize of USD 1,000 is awarded during the Closing Ceremony to a woman orthopaedic surgeon or trainee under 40 years of age who has published an original scientific work in orthopaedics or traumatology in the English language within the last three years. The purpose of the award is to encourage young female researchers and clinicians.

NuVasive/SICOT Foundation Scholarships (closed)

Two scholarships of USD 2,500 each will be granted to help cover the accommodation and travel costs and a diploma will be awarded at the Closing Ceremony of the Congress. The purpose is to allow eligible Active or Associate members of SICOT to attend the 38th SICOT World Congress in Cape Town from 30 November to 2 December 2017.

Prerequisites: candidates must be orthopaedic spine surgeons or general orthopaedic surgeons with a major interest in spine surgery; 45 years of age or younger; Active or Associate member of SICOT in good standing (2017 annual membership fee paid); have an abstract (oral or poster) accepted for the Cape Town Congress; registered for the Congress.

SICOT has established a 'Research Academy' which will foster high quality research amongst its members. The Academy has established three research awards, each in the field of:

  2. Basic Sciences

  3. Young Investigator Award

No application is required for the following awards. The winners of the awards below will be selected from all presenters at the Congress. Award winners will be notified in advance and must attend the Closing Ceremony to receive their prize.
 

German SICOT Fellowships

Sponsored by the SICOT German section

The fellowship was awarded for the first time in 2005 and is presented to the two best candidates who pass the annual SICOT Diploma Examination. The two fellows are invited to visit well-known German orthopaedic centres for a period of four weeks. Travel is organised by the German Section of SICOT. Special interests of the fellows will be taken into consideration in the choice of hosting centres. The sponsorship up to a maximum total of EUR 2,500 per fellow also includes: an economy class air ticket, food and accommodation, travel expenses within Germany and an allowance. The two candidates (who must be members of SICOT) are selected by the Board of Examiners at the end of the SICOT Diploma Examination. Besides an excellent exam, good knowledge of the English language is the main selection criterion. The purpose of the fellowship is to reward participants in the examination for their achievements and to give them the opportunity to meet with leading German orthopaedic surgeons.   

 

Henri Bensahel Award

This Award was established in 2009 in memory of Henri Bensahel, Professor of Paediatric Orthopaedics and a Founding Member of IFPOS (International Federation of Paediatric Orthopaedic Societies). A prize of EUR 300 is awarded at the Closing Ceremony to the best oral presentation in Paediatrics.

Hull Deformity Course SICOT Awards

Sponsored by SICOT & Hull Hospital

Two awards, one for the best oral presentation and one for the best poster presentation on Deformity of the Limb and Trauma, will be granted free registration to the Hull Deformity Course, which will take place in June 2018 in Hull, United Kingdom. The course material, lunches and course dinner for all four days will be provided by the organiser. In addition, the accommodation costs will be reimbursed by SICOT up to EUR 500 (upon receiving the hotel receipt as proof of your expenses). However, the travel expenses will have to be covered by the awardee himself.

 

Shanmuga S. Jayakumar Award

This Award was created in 2013 in honour of Shanmuga S. Jayakumar, considered to be amongst the greatest paediatric orthopaedic surgeons in the United States. A prize of EUR 300 is awarded to one of the best oral presentations in Paediatrics.

SICOT/AAOS Annual Meeting Scholarships

AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) will provide two free registrations for the AAOS Annual Meeting to SICOT-selected scholarship recipients, who will be chosen from a pool of candidates under 45 years of age comprised of the winners of the best oral and poster presentations. Travel expenses up to EUR 500 will be covered by SICOT. 

 

SICOT/CCJR Meeting Awards

Sponsored by SICOT & CCJR

The best oral and poster presentations in Arthroplasty will be granted this award, which includes one free registration (worth USD 900) for the CCJR (Current Concepts in Joint Replacement) Winter Course and one free registration for the Spring Course. Travel expenses up to EUR 500 will be covered by SICOT.

  

SICOT Oral Presentation Award

The presenting authors of the ten best oral papers present their papers for a second time at the Best Papers Session during the Congress. The presenting author of the best oral presentation selected during this session will be awarded a prize of EUR 800 at the Closing Ceremony.

The presenting author of the best poster will be awarded a prize of EUR 800 at the Closing Ceremony.
