Australian SICOT Award
Funded by the SICOT Australian section
Awarded since 2004 at each annual international conference and triennial world congress to young surgeons. The three prizes of AUD 3,000 each were to help cover travel and accommodation expenses of young deserving surgeons who otherwise would not be able to attend the SICOT meeting. The award was administered by the Young Surgeons Committee. Candidates must have been under 40 years of age and members of SICOT.

Korean SICOT Award
Funded by the SICOT Foundation
This award was granted to young orthopaedic surgeons under 40. The prize of USD 3,000 was awarded to one surgeon, or shared by two orthopaedic surgeons. The purpose is to help candidates attend the Congress.
Documents submitted: application letter, CV, copy of birth certificate, and indication of travel costs.

Marcela Uribe Zamudio Award
Funded by the SICOT Foundation
Two prizes of up to USD 2,000 each were awarded to two women orthopaedic surgeons under 40 who had completed original scientific work in orthopaedics or traumatology within the last three years. The purpose of the award is to encourage young researchers and clinicians.
Documents submitted: application letter, CV, copy of birth certificate, and copy of personal work completed within the last three years.

Maurice E. Müller/SICOT Award
Funded by the Maurice E. Müller Foundation
CHF 12,000 were awarded to the author(s) of original scientific work in orthopaedics or traumatology (either clinical or research) completed within the three years prior to the Hong Kong TWC 2008. Candidates must have been under 45. The purpose of the award is to encourage young researchers and clinicians.

SICOT/SIROT Award
Funded by the SICOT Foundation
USD 2,000Â were awarded to the author(s) of original research work in orthopaedics or traumatology completed within the three years prior to the Hong Kong TWC 2008. Candidates must have been under 45. The purpose of the award is to help candidates attend the Congress.

German SICOT Fellowship
Funded by the SICOT German section
The fellowship was awarded for the first time in 2005 to the two best candidates who passed the annual SICOT Diploma Examination. The two fellows are invited to visit well-known German orthopaedic centres for a period of four weeks. Travelling is organised by the German Section of SICOT. Special interests of the fellows will be taken into consideration in the choice of hosting centres. The sponsorship also includes: an economy class air ticket, food and accommodation, travel expenses within Germany and an allowance up to a maximum total of EUR 2,500 per fellow.
The two candidates were selected by the Board of Examiners at the end of the SICOT Diploma Examination which took place on 24 August 2008. Besides an excellent exam, good knowledge of the English language is the main selection criterion.
The purpose of the fellowship is to reward participants in the examination for their achievements and to give them the opportunity to meet with leading German orthopaedic surgeons. Winners
SICOT Oral Presentation Awards

The presenting authors of the ten best papers presented their papers for a second time at the Best Papers Session during the Hong Kong TWC 2008. The presenting authors of the three best oral presentations selected during this session were each awarded a prize of EUR 500 at the Closing Ceremony. All presenting authors will receive a diploma of recognition. Winners
