SICOT Ortho Excellence Program (OEP)
This program has been organized under the aegis of SICOT Education. As conceptualized, a well known international SICOT surgeon presents a webinar on the second Friday of every month. This is open to orthopaedic surgeons in India and other parts of the world. In India it is targeted to 5,000 surgeons. The program has a website called www.sicotoep.com and the program is financially supported by Abbott Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. The current focus is on Trauma of the Lower Extremity.
Four webinars have taken place so far and a fifth is in the offing shortly. Dr Ashok Johari from India delivered the first webinar on "Decision Making in Lower Extremity Trauma in Children" in August 2012, followed by Prof Gershon Volpin of Israel in September on "Polytrauma". The next speaker was Prof Khaled Emara from Egypt, whose webinar in October dealt with "Fractures of the Tibia". The following lecture in November was delivered by Prof Pierre Hoffmeyer, Switzerland, on "Fractures of the Femoral Shaft". The next scheduled webinars are:
- Prof Peter Biberthaler, Germany, 14 December 2012, "Fractures around the Knee"
- Prof James Waddell, Canada, 11 January 2013, "Treatment of Femoral Neck Fractures"
- Prof Vilmos Vécsei, Austria, 8 February 2013, "Trochanteric Fractures"
More details can be found on the SICOT OEP website. The last webinar of this series will end in February 2013. The webinars are archived on the website and one can go to the website and listen to the lectures at leisure. FAQs with answers are also put up on the website for ready reference and a MCQ test can be taken. In India, after every webinar, a handbook consisting of the lecture slides, the FAQs and the answers is distributed to all registered surgeons.
