Editorial by Carl Ekholm

Welcome to our Instructional Courses

These courses are held on Tuesday morning (09:00-12:00, 31 August) and cover a wide spectrum of orthopaedic problems. All courses will offer lectures on the state of art within the respective topics by Swedish and international speakers. Ample opportunities for questions and discussions will be given. The course format may vary – in some courses you will be offered practical sawbone exercises, in others applied surgery will be demonstrated either on video or with live surgery via satellite link.

Through the years, these courses have been much appreciated both by junior doctors as well as by senior ones. The success of the courses naturally also depends on the active participation of all of you. Do not hesitate to register for a course before it is too late!

The courses will cover the following topics:

  1. Trochanteric Hip Fractures – a common fracture with lots of unfortunate complications.
  2. Ankle Fractures – despite being a "simple" fracture, poor results are common but preventable.
  3. Elbow Engaging Forearm Fractures – sometimes exceedingly difficult and complex injuries.
  4. Shoulder Hemi Arthroplasty – recent significant advances have greatly improved the operative outcome.
  5. ACL-recontruction – emphasis on the double-bundle technique.
  6. Arthroscopic treatment of gleno-humeral instability – techniques and a specially prepared video.
  7. Cementing Techniques in Hip Arthroplasty – vital for the longevity of the implant.
  8. Hindfoot Osteotomies – indication, planning and technique.
  9. TEN-nailing in Paediatric Fractures – practical and technical aspects.
  10. Treatment of Thoracolumbar fractures – conservative or open surgery or pecutaneous fixation?
  11. Periprosthetic Fractures of the Femur – on the treatment of difficult cases.
