Se-Il Suk

“EVOLUTION OF SPINE DEFORMITY SURGERY IN THE WORLD AND ASIA” 

Prof Se-Il Suk has been Professor and Director of the Seoul Spine Institute, Inje University Medical School in South Korea since 1997. He received his medical degree from the Seoul National University, where he also completed his Doctorate. He did his orthopaedic residency at the University of Rochester in New York, United States. Between 1968 and 1997, he was a Faculty member of the School of Medicine at the Seoul National University. His positions at the University included Chairman and Professor of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. In 1997 he was appointed Emeritus Professor of the University.

Prof Suk is a member of the Korean Medical Association, Korean Orthopaedic Association, Korean Spinal Society, SICOT/SIROT, Scoliosis Research Society, International College of Surgeons, and the Western Pacific Orthopaedic Association. He has been President of many societies and associations, including the Korean Society of Fractures, Korean Spine Society, Korean Orthopaedic Association, Korean Society for Bone Metabolism, and SIROT from 2002 to 2005. He was Vice President of SICOT from 1993 to 1996 and the SICOT National Delegate for Korea between 1991 and 2005. He is currently the President of the Korean Orthopaedic Cyber Society. Prof Suk was also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of SIROT 93 in Seoul and the President of the SICOT Inter-congress meeting in Seoul in 1997.

He is the author of several textbooks in Korean, including the “Textbook of Orthopaedics”, “Textbook of Fractures”, “Osteoporosis”, “Spinal Surgery”, and contributed many chapters to the “English Textbook”. He has also written over 300 papers, mainly on the spine.
